Meister Eckhart Divinity School
An Educational Institute For Ministry, Personal Growth And Religious Degree Or Certificate Programs
All School staff, faculty and students are held to maintain a professional attitude as expressed in proper etiquette during both correspondence and personal interaction. This also applies when referring to faculty, staff and students.
Thus:
Faculty is always to be addressed by their last name preceded by the title "Professor", such as "Professor N." or "Prof. Dr. N." (if they hold a doctoral title); etc.
School staff is to be addressed by "Mr., Mrs." or "Ms." and their last name respectively, if they do not hold a title. In the latter case, their title is to be used instead. For example, "Dr. N."
Ordained staff is to be addressed with their respective title, such as "Rev.", "Fr." , "Bishop" etc. as customary.
Students can be addressed by their first (full) name, i.e. not casual versions. Example: "James" (instead of "Jim"); Michael (instead of "Mike"), etc.
In English, when placing a name at the end of a sentence or exclamation, a comma must always come before it. Example: “Can you help me with my studies, Daniel.” - Or: "Good morning, Fr. John!" The same rule applies to titles: "Good morning, Your Excellency!" Or: "Hello, Mar Joseph!" Or: "Greetings, Dr. Cerny!" Or: "Hi, Prof. Swanson!"
